7 Side Hustle ideas that Actually Work

You’ve probably spent hours searching for side hustles online, only to find none of them actually work. Trust me, I’ve been there too.

After landing a full-time job, I spent a ton of time hunting for side gigs. But most of the information I found was far from realistic.

Some of them might be okay for side hustles, but the majority just weren’t a good fit. More importantly, they weren’t suitable for beginners.

Below are all the side hustles I’ve personally tried. I can’t guarantee you’ll love them, but I can say for sure that they’re all entry-level jobs.

Online Tutoring

Education is always in demand, no matter the era. To this day, online tutoring remains one of the most popular and feasible side hustles out there.

If you’re a native English speaker, you can teach English to people from countries where there’s high demand. My younger sister just started high school, and I’ve been steering her towards online tutoring. She’s currently teaching on Preply. Even if you’re not a native English speaker, you can still teach your native language.

However, you need to research the rates in the countries you’re targeting. You’ll likely need to set lower rates because these are developing nations.

Babysitting

This side hustle is more common for women—most families tend to prefer hiring females for the job. But hey, I’m a guy, and guess what? I babysit too.

Early in my career, I got lucky because my first job on Care.com was from my aunt 🙂 I felt like the luckiest guy alive.

Babysitting is one of the best side hustles because while the baby’s napping, I would be researching small business ideas to escape the 9-to-5 grind.

Remember, make the most of your downtime!

Dog Sitting

Even though there are a lot of big-name dog-sitting services out there, many families still prefer hiring an individual to do the job.

Why? Because it’s more affordable.

So, if you’re a dog lover and looking for a side hustle, this could be the perfect one for you.

Transcriber or Translator

This is one of those cool jobs you can pick up. Your job would be to translate documents or create subtitles for movies or videos. Regardless of where you live, this is always in demand.

You can join Amberscript to become a transcriptionist.

Tester

This side hustle might require more skills, but it’s still an entry-level job.

Your task is to test new apps and give feedback. You could even test products from big companies like Google, Microsoft, and more.

There are plenty of websites and apps where you can make money by testing. I personally worked with TesterWork. Everyone has different criteria for what they’re looking for, so check out some TesterWork reviews before you sign up.

Rent Your Spare Room

If you’ve got a spare room in your house, why not rent it out? There’s practically no risk involved.

The key question is, how will you find customers? This can be a great practice for marketing before you get into something bigger.

Do well, and you can even scale this into a full-blown business model.

Newspaper Delivery

It may be a bit old-fashioned, but delivering newspapers is one of the most reliable side hustles out there.

It’s easy to find, it’s safe, and there’s zero risk of getting scammed. Plus, you don’t need any upfront capital to start this job.

My Perspective

A lot of people think side hustles have to be dropshipping or affiliate marketing. I get it, those are popular choices. But are you sure you’re going to make money right away? There’s a huge misconception about side hustles, and I just want my readers to understand one simple truth:

  • You need cash flow to pay the bills.
  • You need extra money to start your business.

That’s why, if you’re new here, you should start here. Otherwise, everything you read on The Income Dude blog won’t really add any value to your life.

Good luck!
